With over a decade in the industry, I started my career in Santa Cruz, CA completing a multi-year apprenticeship under a long time salon owner/ mentor and my hair journey has since led me to soak up continued education and work in San Francisco, become a licensed cosmetologist and work in Nashville, soak up continued education in the south and NYC, become a licensed barber in Oregon, followed by opening up The Hideout Hair Studio in a cute little corner of Downtown Portland as cozy two chair space, now expanding to Hawthorne blvd .
I am always excited to meet new clients and get folks to the style they’ve been craving while nourishing their manes with non toxic products. With an emphasize on low maintenances styling, I specialize in big transformations, shags, bobs, anything with bangs, masculine long hair and classic barbering cuts. I take inspiration from 60’s and 70’s musicians, world travel, the classics and ever changing trends. Razor cutting is my jam for those effortless lived in looks while my experience in classic scissor work and barbering allows me to produce versatile results based on each persons individual preferences, lifestyle and hair texture.
When not behind the chair you’ll find me hanging out with my partner and dogs, exploring the great outdoors, hitting up the local art and music scene, traveling or soaking up some education on hair!
I hope you enjoy your time in The Hideout Hair Studio as much as I do,
-Jazz

Hi I’m Wendy. I’ve been a professional cutting specialist for over twenty years, but I consider myself a forever student in the craft of hairdressing. To learn is to be inspired! My hair journey has taken me from Scottsdale, to San Francisco and now here in Portland. I specialize in lived-in and gorgeously textured straight razor, and scissor cuts. Softness is my signature, and I love to create shapes of all kinds especially shags, bobs, pixies, bangs and creative layered shapes. I really enjoy bringing out natural texture of all kinds and creating easy but impactful shapes that are low fuss, and that grow out super well. My background has mostly been training at Toni and Guy and Bumble and Bumble, and I've really enjoyed figuring out and forming my own personal cutting style based on those two valuable influences. And with lots and lots of continued education over the years, I’ve learned that I most value helping clients define their own personal style over them just wearing trends. I feel that the best approach to achieving that is through really great communication and with honesty about what a client’s expectations are. When you are a client in my chair, I want your experience to feel a little more like a collaboration. So please bring me your ideas so we can create together! I am a safe space and all are welcome in my chair. @wendycuts_hair

Fern, originally from Northern California, has been a hairstylist for over ten years. His journey began as a receptionist at two popular San Francisco salons, where he discovered his passion for hair. He moved to Portland in 2016, attended the Paul Mitchell School, and graduated in 2017 before completing an apprenticeship program.
Known for his attention to detail and clean, methodical approach (he credits his Virgo nature), Fern creates a positive, easygoing experience for every client. While he’s known for lived-in blonding, he’s equally skilled in cutting—ranging from barbering and taper fades to bobs, layers, shags, and curtain fringe. He works with both shears and razors and is committed to ongoing education.
As a first-generation Mexican and person of color, Fern is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, welcoming space for all. We’re thrilled to have him at The Hideout. IG: @thafurnace
